I will be giving a talk at Columbia - the first in an ongoing series of lectures organized by Appendix - this Sunday the 26th. The name of my talk is Honesty Competitions and it will examine (amongst other things) Carles’ concept of “meaningful,” Bas Jan Ader’s tears v.s. Laurel Nakadate’s tears, pigeon-toed girls from fashion blogs, Momus’s “anxious interval,” the nature of nostalgia, personal brands, “zany anthropology,” Michael Cera and maltstream cinema, “this is so bad it’s gone past good and back to bad again,” awkwardness, and Jonathan Richman.
